Best of Winners
Step 3 of 3100%

Putting It All Together

Let's review the complete flow of regular class judging:

1. Regular Classes — Dogs compete within their class (Puppy, Novice, Bred-by-Exhibitor, American-Bred, Open). First place (blue ribbon) advances.

2. Winners Dog — All first-place class winners compete. One receives the purple ribbon and championship points based on class dogs competing.

3. Reserve Winners Dog — The runner-up, selected from remaining class winners plus the second-place dog from the Winners' class. No points.

4. Repeat for Bitches — Steps 1-3 happen again for bitches, producing Winners Bitch and Reserve Winners Bitch.

5. Best of Winners — Winners Dog and Winners Bitch compete. The winner gets the higher point value.

After BOW, the regular class judging is complete. What follows is Best of Breed judging (where champions also compete), but that's beyond our current scope.

Congratulations! You now understand the fundamental flow of AKC conformation judging. Head to the Championship Points scenarios to practice calculating points with real breed data.

Key Takeaway

The regular class judging flow is: Classes → Winners → Reserve → Best of Winners. Only Winners and BOW earn championship points.
