The Second-Place Dog Returns

Immediately after Winners Dog is selected, something interesting happens. The second-place dog from the class that produced the Winners Dog returns to the ring.

Why? Because that dog was only beaten by the dog that just won Winners. It never had the chance to compete against the other class winners.

Now the ring contains:

• The class winners who did not win Winners (they're still in the ring)
• The second-place dog from the class that produced the winner

From this group, the judge selects Reserve Winners Dog, awarded the purple-and-white ribbon.

The same process happens for bitches after Winners Bitch is selected.
